dog-sport curious.

Dog Sports Finder started with one energetic puppy, a hard-to-find agility class, and a spreadsheet. It grew into the easiest way to find every trial — across every organization — in one place.

It all started with a bite-sized husky

As a little ball of fluff, Kai came into our family's life in April of 2019 — an energetic, happy-go-lucky, fearless puppy. Different than my previous dog, he was very food-motivated and loved to please. We did the basic puppy classes and some at-home YouTube training, but I wanted to channel his energy into something more.

I'd seen agility on TV and it looked like something he might excel at — he was quick, trainable, and loved to parkour around the house. But finding classes was surprisingly hard. I later learned that most dog-sport training is found by word-of-mouth, or by already being part of the community.

Following the rabbit hole of research, we also tried FastCAT, Nosework, and rat games like Barn Hunt and NASDA — where he leaned into his strong prey drive and love of sniffing.

He loves the "games" we play, and I love the quality 1:1 time. At home there's a wall of his ribbons, like a proud momma. Dog sports brought so much joy to our lives — and I hope this site helps other owners start their own journey.

About the humom

My day job is IT Project Management — pretty suitable for my personality. I enjoy bringing order to chaos and connecting with fellow IT introverts over board games and computer gaming.

I can also be obsessive about internet research: itineraries for upcoming trips (where to stay, eat, and how to min/max airline and credit-card points), or finding every local agility trainer within a 50-mile radius. My hobbies usually end in a spreadsheet with formulas. :)

About the dawg

Kai is the celebrity of the family — every day someone asks "what kind of dog is that?!" So this one's for the breed: the Alaskan Klee Kai.

The AKK is a relatively new breed, created in the '70s as companion dogs that look like a miniature husky. They keep some husky traits — mouthy, constantly shedding, vocal with their opinions — with the benefits of a smaller, more manageable size.

Adorable and fiercely loyal, but not for everyone: they can be destructive when bored and gravitate to their "person" (bathroom visits are no longer sacred). The breed is recognized by UKC and the AKC Foundation Stock Service — the AKKCOA and AKKAOA club sites are great places to learn more.
